Desk analysis
Ledger confirmed an unauthorized hardware implant in at least one Ledger device sold through Southeast Asian reseller CryptoBilis, draining cryptocurrency wallets. The implant was found after reports of user losses; Ledger launched an investigation on October 9 and confirmed tampering by October 10. Researchers showed altered Ledger X devices sold at roughly half price since September 16. Ledger recommends buyers from CryptoBilis not set up unconfigured devices and advises contacting support. Watch for expanded victim reports and law-enforcement attribution, since Ledger is working with authorities but has not identified the perpetrator or provided a loss figure.

The crypto wallet maker also noted that it was working with authorities to identify the perpetrator and bring them to justice. “[...]Ledger recommends users who purchased a Ledger device from this reseller to not initiate set up if they have not yet done so.
