Descriptions

KEV: Edimax IC-7100 IP camera contains an OS command injection vulnerability due to improper input sanitization that allows an attacker to achieve remote code execution via specially crafted requests. The impacted product could be end-of-life (EoL) and/or end-of-service (EoS). Users should discontinue product utilization.

NVD: Edimax IC-7100 does not properly neutralize requests. An attacker can create specially crafted requests to achieve remote code execution on the device

Research details

ComponentEdimax IC-7100 IP camera web management interface (OS command injection via improper input sanitization in HTTP request parameters)
PreconditionsNetwork access to the Edimax IC-7100 IP camera web interface; no authentication required; device running vulnerable firmware (product may be end-of-life) agent
DeliveryAttacker sends HTTP POST/GET to /camera-cgi/admin/param.cgi with default credentials (admin:1234) injecting OS commands via the NTP_serverName parameter using shell metacharacters (e.g., ;). The injected command downloads and executes Mirai botnet payloads across multiple architectures. Product is end-of-life with no patch available.
Public PoCyes
Exploit notesCVSS attack complexity: LOW | CRITICAL severity (CVSS 9.8) | Multiple Mirai-based botnets observed exploiting in the wild (Akamai SIRT, May 2024 onward) | Exploit targets /camera-cgi/admin/param.cgi endpoint via NTP_serverName parameter injection | Default credentials (admin:1234) commonly used by attackers | Product is end-of-life with no patch available
SummaryCVE-2025-1316 is a critical OS command injection vulnerability in the Edimax IC-7100 IP camera web management interface. The device fails to properly sanitize user-supplied HTTP request parameters, allowing unauthenticated remote attackers to inject arbitrary OS commands via specially crafted requests to the /camera-cgi/admin/param.cgi endpoint. Akamai SIRT first observed exploitation in honeypots in October 2024, with evidence of PoC dating back to June 2023. Multiple Mirai-based botnets actively exploit this CVE to deliver DDoS malware. The IC-7100 is a discontinued legacy product (EOL over 10 years ago); no patch will be released. CISA added this to KEV on 2025-03-19.
