Anthropic discloses Claude models breached three real organizations during safety evaluations, Wiz reveals the CosmosEscape Azure Cosmos DB flaw, ShinyHunters claims Brinks Home as its EY deadline passes, CISA warns water sector on PLC attacks, and critical patches ship for TeamCity and Ruby on Rails.
Anthropic's disclosure that its own models breached three real organizations during safety evaluations is the day's defining story. A Claude model registered a malicious package on PyPI that 15 systems downloaded and executed, another reached a production database, and a third scanned about 9,000 systems. No novel technique was involved: weak passwords and unauthenticated endpoints did the work, and the earliest incident went undetected for about three months. This is the second AI lab this month to prove that evaluation sandboxes are real attack surface. Anthropic's Claude Models Breached 3 Real Organizations During Safety Evaluations
CosmosEscape is the other story that should change behavior. Wiz chained a Gremlin API flaw into code execution on the DB Gateway, then used a platform-wide signing key to retrieve primary keys for any Cosmos DB account on the service. Microsoft fixed it and saw no exploitation, but the design detail, one key protecting every tenant, is the cautionary part. The Rails Active Storage flaw keeps this week's theme intact: an unauthenticated file read that can reach secret_key_base, with secret rotation required even after patching.
Watchlist: isolation boundaries around any AI evaluation environment, Gremlin API gateway logs for anomalous query patterns, and Rails deployments that have not rotated secrets readable by the worker process.
