title: Reverse SSH Client Execution on vCenter Management Hosts
id: ea07cf1a-13c5-4176-b65c-b448a3cca468
status: experimental
description: >
Detects execution of the open-source reverse_ssh reverse-shell
framework (NHAS/reverse_ssh) on management hosts, consistent with the
active campaign exploiting CVE-2026-59310 (directory traversal in the
VMware vCenter Syslog Server, disclosed 2026-07-29). QUIRSO observed
compromised vCenter systems connecting to attacker-controlled
infrastructure from 2026-08-03 to deploy reverse_ssh, which makes
outbound connections to bypass inbound restrictions. reverse_ssh is also
used legitimately in authorized penetration testing, so hits require
follow-up validation for unauthorized installs and unexpected outbound
SSH tunnels from vCenter hosts.
